It's because we believed what President Washington's said about "avoid foreign entanglements".
Why did we finally enter the war?
Germany tries to ally themselves with mexico more pressure to america to enter the war. People in America were concerned because for many immigrants Europe was there homeland. Another reaction was the Americans felt German u-boats were an attack to the U.S. Munitions were being carried by them and passenger ships and we knew and they knew we knew.

Chapter 23
Journel 1:
I expect to learn about what lead up to the Great Depression and how it eventually ended. What was the problems it caused worldwide?
Journel 2:
Why did they do what they did? What surprised you?
They did it for adventure.
Other was to make money for there family at home.
The driver of the train dropped me off in the middle of the swamp and that probably saved my life because they were looking for me.
That one woman disobeyed her father and just left.
Saw some girls sell themselves for 50 cents.
Guy stabbed me as I got off the train and if it would've been a quarter of an inch deeper I would have died.
That they rode on top of the cars.
A guy said he had gun and flashlight in his face at midnight then was behind bars.
thats were our six dollars went to when they made us strip down in jail.
Gave a woman two tomatos for a full days of work.
Gave him 15 cents back because if thats all he could give me he probably needed it more.

Journal 3:
1. Why were the accomplishments of Neta Snook and Amelia Earhart considered exceptional?
"Amelia was involved in co- founding the Ninety-Nines, an organization of woman pilots still active today. Her career was full of “firsts”; she was the first woman passenger on a transatlantic flight, the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic, and the first woman recipient of the flying cross."
2. What does the introduction tell us about the novelty and risks of aviation in the 1920s?
It shows how not very often people would attempt things this dangerous. It also goes to show how courageous Amelia was, because no one dared to do the things she did. When people completed these dangerous acts they were looked upon as heroes, but would face immense consequences if they failed to complete them. For example when Amelia Earhart disappeared on her attempt to fly around the world.
3. Choose an accomplished contemporary woman and compare her life and place in American history to Amelia Earhart’s or Neta Snook’s.
Hillary Clinton. She is incredibly brave and confident. Hillary Clinton became the first female presidential candidate nominated by a major party, namely the Democratic Party. Which shows how brave she is, also she thought she was gonna win the whole time which shows confidence. Amelia shares both traits with her because being the first person to attempt to fly around the world by herself is very brave, and thinking she was going to make it the whole time shows confidence.

- This is a love letter, but how would you characterize the tone of the letter? I would characterize the tone as very optimistic and positive because he says "I’m glad I’m here, I’m glad we’ve helped these people and hope we can drive the enemy out of the Philippines quickly"
- How are the Japanese portrayed in the letter? What words make this clear to the reader? They Japanese are portrayed as terrible and evil. She uses "unmitigated brutality — barbarism — cruelty"
- How did Sidney Diamond describe his experiences with the old man and the young Filipino boy? When he passed the old man he didn't comprehend that there’d been a change. He took of his hat and bowed down as if he still thought he had to because he was forced to before. When he gave a kid a piece of candy and ask him his name he’d replied with “Hai” which is nip for “Yes sir”. Show it shows they were brainwashed in a way and were forced to do things.
